Software Engineer I - Risk & Compliance

About the Team:

Join the Compliance Technology team at Chipper Cash, a fast-growing fintech company revolutionizing cross-border payments. Our team is responsible for building and managing tools and systems that ensure robust compliance while maintaining user-friendly experiences. We tackle key challenges, including onboarding controls, vendor integrations, anti-fraud and spoofing models, document verification, transaction monitoring, authentication, and screening solutions. As an intern, you'll work closely with experienced engineers to build scalable, secure, and compliant technology solutions.

About the Role

This is a 3-month provisional contract-based role, with a goal of conversion to a long-term position at the end of the provisional period. It is a Software Engineer I role, so applicants from all backgrounds are eligible, from recently graduated students to industry veterans.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist in the development and enhancement of onboarding controls and fraud detection systems.
  • Work on integrating vendor solutions to streamline compliance processes.
  • Support the team in implementing and improving anti-spoofing models, document verification systems, and authentication solutions.
  • Collaborate on transaction monitoring and watchlists screening solutions to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and enhance compliance tooling to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of compliance operations.
  • Contribute to data transformation using tools like DBT to support risk analysis and reporting.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including compliance, fraud, and engineering, to ensure systems are effective and scalable.

What We're Looking For:

  • Required Skills:
    • Proficiency in TypeScript, NodeJS for building scalable solutions.
    • A strong interest in learning and working on compliance technology, fraud prevention, document verification, and authentication systems.
  • Nice to have Skills:
    • Knowledge of Python for backend scripting and automation.
    • Experience or familiarity with React Native
    • Understanding of DBT or similar data transformation and pipeline tools.
    • Experience working with Large Language Models ****(LLMs) and their applications in compliance or risk analysis.

Location:

This role is based in Nigeria and follows a hybrid work arrangement. Candidates must be currently residing in Nigeria and able to collaborate with both local and remote teams.
